Entrance in the country
Only valid ID cards/passports are required from all the EC countries. Delegates from countries where visa is normally required for entry to Bulgaria are reminded that they will need to obtain one from the appropriate Bulgarian Embassy/Consul. Please check at the nearest Bulgarian Embassy all the documents required for your country.
The list of the countries, whose citizens need a visa, when entering Bulgaria, can be found at www.mfa.government.bg.
Letter of invitation
Upon request the Organizing Committee will issue an Official Letter of invitation for participation in the ICOLD 2008 Congress. It should be understood that the invitation is only meant to facilitate participants to find financial support if it is necessary or to be presented at the Bulgarian consular offices for obtaining an entry visa. Such a letter does not commit the Organizing Committee to cover any expenses of the delegates.
Insurance
Participants should assure that they have the necessary medical insurance when traveling.
During their stay in Sofia, participants have standard hotel insurance.
The Organizing Committee can arrange cover for eventualities such as physical injury, damage to property, etc. upon request.
Customs formalities and limitations
Upon crossing the state border of the Republic of Bulgaria passengers may import and export duty free commodities that in type, quantities, and value are not of a commercial nature and personal belongings. Common custom declarations and restrictions are applied for import and export of currency, food, alcohol and goods. There is a special custom regime for antiquarian objects, historic and cultural treasures, medicines, narcotics, weapons, ammunitions.
